12th Annual International African American
Hotel Ownership & Multicultural Tourism Summit & Trade Show

July 16-19, 2008
Atlanta Century Center Marriott
Atlanta, Georgia, USA
NABHOOD MISSION STATEMENT
To increase the number of African-Americans owning, developing, managing and operating hotels; increase vendor opportunities & executive level jobs for minorities.

Dear Hospitality Partner:
We are pleased to invite you to the 12th Annual International African American Hotel Ownership & Multicultural Tourism Summit & Trade Show on July 16-19, 2008 at the Atlanta Marriott Century Center. The theme is "Getting Stronger By Working Together". This event is presented by the National Association of Black Hotel Owners, Operators & Developers (NABHOOD), Black Meetings & Tourism Magazine and Horizons Marketing Group. This year's summit will be exciting and packed with information to help you understand the many opportunities that are available in multicultural tourism & hotel ownership. 2007 was a strong year for hotel investors, developers and lenders and 2008 looks even better.

The summit will focus on creating partnerships through African American hotel ownership while developing strategies to understand how to take advantage of the fifty billion dollar minority travel market. There will be many opportunities for hotel and industry professionals to meet and network with attendees who can help them increase their presence in the growing multicultural tourism market. You will meet and network with industry leaders, African American hotel owners, investors, lenders and potential joint-venture partners.

The 4-day educational summit is designed to educate attendees on how to become a hotel owner or investor, share minority travel trends, learn how to market to minorities and look at diversity issues affecting the industry. The summit will open on Wednesday morning, July 16 with the NABHOOD HBCU Celebrity Scholarship Golf Tournament followed at noon with our Orientation Program for new & prospective hotel owners, Committee Meetings, Opening General Session and the Chairman's Welcome Reception in the evening. General Sessions & workshops will be held Thursday through Saturday with the Trade Show on Friday. NABHOOD Corporate Dinners take place Thursday evening to allow new & potential owners to spend time with a preferred hotel brand (eligible attendees must sign up in advance based on availability). The NABHOOD Awards Luncheon will be on Thursday to recognize individuals and companies that have demonstrated through their actions a commitment to diversity while providing opportunities to minorities. On Saturday afternoon, we will hold the NABHOOD Career Expo & Job Fair and close with the Multicultural Tourism Banquet.

Welcome to Hilton Garden Inn Chicago Downtown North
This 23 story hotel is located close to everything that is Chicago. Just two blocks from Michigan Avenue.

Hilton Garden Inn Chicago Downtown North Hotel development experts tend to make the process sound relatively straightforward: find a site, line up the other key players, raise the necessary money, start building, open for business. But they're equally quick to warn that while the steps are easy enough to comprehend on the surface, the process can be fraught with all kinds of problems if novices jump in without understanding what's involved in each step along the way.

And he has.

Hotel developer R. Donahue Peebles finds opportunities
By TOM STIEGHORST

When developer Roy Donahue Peebles Jr. met his wife, he found the one love that could surpass his passion for real estate deals. Even then, it was close. While on his honeymoon in Montana in 1992, Peebles phoned in a $5 million bid on a 101-year-old bank building in Washington, D.C., that was languishing in the portfolio of the Resolution Trust Company, a government agency for failed savings and loans. It took two years for the Washington, D.C., native, who now lives in South Florida, to gain title to the property. The red-brick building sat empty for another four years. Finally, when market conditions ripened, he redeveloped it. Last year, it reopened as a 188-room Courtyard by Marriott.

175 gather to network, develop marketing strategies
By BRAD BENNETT Herald Staff Writer
As a young man, Bob Wilson worked as a busboy and waiter in hotels that would not let him stay overnight as a guest because he is black.
Today, the 65-year-old architect, based in Miami and Connecticut, is developing 30 hotels across the country that will bear the familiar names of Ramada Inn, Days Inn, Howard Johnson, Wingate Inn and others.
Some of those hotels will be in Coral Gables and Miami.
Racism, he said, is just another obstacle to brush aside for black hoteliers.
